Ingredients
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 2 large eggs
- 1 tablespoon minced garlic
- 12 ounces root beer
- 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
Preparation
- Preheat the oven to 350˚ F.
- In a medium bowl combine flour, sugar, baking powder and salt. Mix well.
- Add the eggs and garlic and mix. Add the root beer and cayenne. Mix all ingredients together well.
- Pour the mixture into a greased 9 x 5-inch bread loaf pan.
- Bake for 55 to 65 minutes. Let the loaf cool before removing from the pan.
Helpful hints
- Use less cayenne pepper if you don't like the heat.
- Instead of using root beer and cayenne, try one of these substitutions: 12 ounces ginger ale and 1/3 cup fresh chopped rosemary leaves; or 12 ounces Orange Crush® or Orange Sunkist® soda with 1 tablespoon ground basil; or 12 ounces lemon lime soda with 1/2 cup chopped fresh cilantro.
- Root beer, ginger ale, orange soda and lemon lime soda generally do not have phosphorus additives. However, always check the ingredient list for phosphate additives.
